Devon borehole specialists, Complete Water Solutions are based in Exeter and provide information on the advantages of having your own borehole.

Fed up with the cost of your water bills? Too remote for the mains?   Devon Underground Leaks

The answer is could be your own borehole:

  • Natural water, totally untreated, with no added chemicals.
  • Water is comes under pressure to your taps
  • Cut your water costs by over three quarters. No more water meter. The only cost is electricity to your pump
  • No licence is required for private domestic purposes, on the condition that less than twenty cubic metres a day (twenty metric tonnes) is pumped from the bore hole.
  • We offer a full service, from the survey to drilling and supplying all of the equipment including pump, controls, filtration all connected to your plumbing system.

If properly surveyed and drilled your borehole will provide you with water for a lifetime.

With water bills for local manufacturing or food processing businesses and agriculture increasing all the time, many are turning to their own water supply. Similarly for any major user of water there is the potential for huge savings where natural water sources are available.

Friendly to the environment

Properly located bore-holes are beneficial to the environment as the demand for water grows. The Environment Agency ensures that a strict set of rules are applied to borehole drilling before permission is given. Geologists estimate that there is two thirds more water underground than in potential surface sources. Every customer who switches to their own source can potentially save compared to continuing with mains water supply, which may have been sourced from rivers.

Borehole water is often totally independent of surface water and coming from underground rivers or aquifers in the bedrock. These sources may be over twenty miles from the boreholes location. Generally, we drill boreholes to a minimum depth of fifty metres where there is an adequate supply to meet the demands put on it. At this depth there is very little chance of contamination to the water. In addition to this we line the borehole with steel until we reach solid rock and we then pressure grout it into the rock so as to ensure a good seal for the borehole from outside sources and to eliminate any chance of any surface contamination.

Quantity and quality

We can not absolutely guarantee that we will find water. However, we do use very good hydrological information and will carry out a survey before we start. We will not advise going ahead with drilling unless we are sure that the chances of finding a good water source are high. There can not be a guarantee for the quality of the water, but generally all borehole water is very pure. This is borne out by fact that water companies widely utilise boreholes for their supplies. We have filtration systems using UV, that can economically treat most water from boreholes to meet drinking water standards or your personal demands.

Cost and maintenance

Bore-holes can vary a lot in terms of cost. This depends on the depth and diameter we will need to drill and of course the supply and installation of the equipment and fittings. Maintenance of wear and tear on the pump is straightforward, we only supply quality pumping equipment ensuring breakdowns are few and far between. The running costs for the pump will show on your electricity bill, but will be a fraction of the saving on your water bill.
